New veterinary facility opens on Liverpool campus

The School of Veterinary Science celebrated the opening of its new city centre campus facility with an event this week (6 December 2023).

Event attendees were given a tour of the new space which includes flexible teaching areas and student and staff social spaces, with demonstrations of some of the new digital technologies being used as part of clinical training and research.

The event was also an opportunity to mark the School’s recent successes in a number of prestigious accreditation reviews including the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Dean of the School of Veterinary Science Professor Paul Lunn said: “Today is a chance to celebrate the great things already happening and also our future ambitions. I’d like to thank all of the colleagues who’ve made this new facility a reality and also those who have worked so hard to secure the several important accreditations we’ve recently received. Our School has a great culture with a wonderful bond between teachers and students, which is underlined by our performance in the National Student Survey.”

Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Professor Louise Kenny said: “Not only are we here to officially open this fantastic new Liverpool campus home for the School of Veterinary Science, but also to celebrate its recent successes in a number of key accreditation reviews, which underline its reputation amongst the top Veterinary Schools in the world. It’s great to be able to expand the offer for Veterinary Science students on our city centre campus, these new facilities will enhance students’ knowledge of specialist equipment in realistic environments and help them develop key skills, guided by our technical experts."

Researchers from the School showcased some of their research and teaching projects at the event, including food security, artificial Intelligence in practice, competency education, translating from canine glioma to human glioblastoma, research-led teaching and veterinary clinical trials.
