USS Opting In/Out

Can I opt in to USS?

Yes. Eligible employees can opt in to USS by completing the USS Notice to Opt In. This form should be returned to the Pensions Team.

I have been automatically enrolled into USS. Can I opt out?

If you have been automatically enrolled, you will need to have received your auto-enrolment letter before you are able to return a valid opt out form. This letter will be sent to your home address during May, once you have been assessed by the auto-enrolment payroll process.

The Notice to Opt Out of Pension Saving form must be obtained from USS and is available to download from their website at www.uss.co.uk

As a new employee, I have been contractually enrolled into USS. Can I opt out?

Yes, you can opt out. However, you must have been enrolled into USS first. You will be enrolled into USS on the first day of your appointment with the University. Therefore you must have started your appointment before you can opt out.
