Researching how
workplaces `work'
ULMS lecturers are working with academics at Keele
University to launch a new journal which will provide an
opportunity for social and management science
scholars to publish high-quality ethnographic research
that will contribute to the future development of
organizational studies.
Published twice yearly from February 2012, the Journal
of Organizational Ethnography
(JOE) will feature
articles, shorter essays on `ethnographic research
trends' and reviews of new ethnographic monographs
and qualitative research method textbooks. It will cover
issues such as social and organizational anthropology,
psychology, management, labour and gender studies,
education and healthcare, culture, environment and
media studies, human geography, socio-legal studies,
criminology, social class and ethnicity.
The journal will be edited by ULMS lecturers Dr Mike
Rowe and Dr Frank Worthington, in conjunction with
Dr Matthew Brannan from Keele University. As well as
promoting recognition of the important role that
organizational ethnography plays in social and
management science research, it is hoped that the
journal will also build on the success of the annual
International Symposium on Current Trends in
Ethnographic Research in the Social and Management
Sciences, which is organised jointly by ULMS and
Keele University's Institute for Public Policy and
Management.
