We promote biodiversity in our green spaces, expand cycle and footpath networks, and ensure all buildings meet the University's energy efficiency and carbon emissions standards.
The directorate plays a key role in developing and embedding the University’s sustainability targets, as summarised below.
- Biodiversity: By managing and enhancing the green spaces on campus to create a more biodiverse environment
- Built environment: By ensuring that both older, existing buildings and new developments are aligned to the University’s sustainability goals in terms of energy efficiency, carbon emissions, inclusivity and accessibility
- Climate action: By contributing to the University’s zero carbon target by effectively managing the estate to ensure maximum positive environmental impact
- Culture and community: By promoting a culture of social responsibility and sustainability activism amongst our 700+ FRCS staff members
- Education for sustainable development: By supporting the use of the estate for teaching and volunteering activities
- Travel and transport: By promoting more sustainable travel options for staff and students and improving the cycle and walking infrastructure on campus
- Responsible consumption and production: By delivering effective waste management and promoting recycling of waste in the buildings we manage
