As part of a UK delegate of experts in geo-hazards and risks, Professor Ben Edwards from the University’s School of Environmental Sciences, joined a UKRI-Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences scoping workshop in New Delhi earlier this month. The UK delegation comprised experts in earthquakes, landslides, and risk resilience from eight leading UK universities, along with representatives from the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council. The meeting was inaugurated by Dr Jitendra Singh, Indian Minister of State for the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Christina Scott CMG, Minister and Deputy High Commissioner to India at the British High Commission. The workshop was attended by members of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, and the Indian National Centres for Seismology (NCS), Earth Science Studies (NCESS), and Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR). The aim of the workshop was to develop themes for joint-funded UK-India collaborative research into ‘Mitigating Risks of Solid Earth Hazards’.
