Records Retention Schedule
The University's Records Retention Schedule is designed as a guide to record retention to assist individuals, and departments, with managing records in line with the Records Management Policy. The Schedule provides general guidance to help you decide what to keep (and for how long) and what to dispose. Individual departments may need to consider other factors when making decisions about records: for example, requirements set by funders or regulatory bodies. You should always consult Records Management if you have any concerns or doubts.
The Schedule is designed to complement your understanding of the University's Records Management Policy - it should not be used in isolation, but as a guide to help you manage your records in line with policy.
Before using the schedule you should:
- 1. Read the Records Management Policy
- 2. Take advantage of training and advice on how to use the Schedule
- 3. Consult the Guide to Records Retention: how long to keep your records along with the accompanying insert
Please note: The University's Records Retention Schedule is currently under review. This version can be used for reference with the understanding that some recommendations will be superseded. The Records Management Team should be consulted with any specific queries. When the new version is available, training on its implementation will be provided to the network of Records Liaison Officers (RLOs).
