Student Loan Delay

I’m starting University in September but my loan will not be paid until 5 October at the earliest, what can I do?

New Students

If you haven’t already done so, open a student bank account which offers an interest-free overdraft – using your overdraft carefully will give you an affordable form of borrowing that you can fall back on when you do not have any other income.

Continuing Students

You may have used your overdraft to support yourself over the summer, try asking your bank if it is possible to extend your limit on a temporary basis.

To avoid any further delays, register for your course as soon as you are able. This will mean the University can confirm your attendance with the Student Loans Company and will prevent any additional unnecessary delays.

The Guild of Students can offer one-off £25 cash loans, you can contact the Guild Advice Centre by emailing guildadvice@liv.ac.uk

If your student loan will be delayed until after the 5 October and you are concerned that you have no money for living costs for the first few weeks of term you can contact Money Advice and Guidance for advice. We may be able to offer a short-term loan, please email uhf@liverpool.ac.uk for further details.

If you are in private accommodation and are worried about the payment of your rent, we will be able to provide you with a letter for your landlord explaining the situation, for further details please email money@liverpool.ac.uk

If you are in catered accommodation take advantage of the included meals – try not to eat out and bring your own lunch to save money
