Fee Status Questionnaire

This page contains information about the Fee Status Questionnaire, why you have been asked to complete one and how to complete it.

If the Admissions Team cannot automatically determine your status based on the information provided in your application, they will ask you to complete a Fee Status Questionnaire. You must complete the questionnaire even if you do not believe that you need to do so. If you are unsure about how to answer any question please attach a letter of explanation (or email) when returning your form.

You should read the guidance notes before completing your Fee Status Questionnaire

The level of tuition fee to be charged to a student is based on The Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 (Statutory Instrument no. 779). Under these regulations students who are classified as 'overseas' may be charged a higher level of fee than those classified as 'home'. Further information about the criteria for 'home' status is available from the UKCISA website.

Failure to return the Fee Status Questionnaire or provide supporting documentation will result in you being classified as overseas for tuition fees

Completing the questionnaire

If you have been asked to complete the Fee Status Questionnaire, it is important you do so in as much detail and return to us as soon as possible

Incomplete questionnaires will not be considered and it is important that you answer the questions accurately.

You must ensure that your fee status is correct before you accept an offer so that you are aware of the tuition fees you will be required to pay. If you are classified incorrectly then you may be required to pay a higher rate of tuition fee from the time you began your course.

If you do not agree with the fee status decision we have made, please contact us as soon as possible by emailing feestatus@liverpool.ac.uk

If your circumstances change between completing your questionnaire and beginning your course then you MUST notify the University immediately by emailing feestatus@liverpool.ac.uk. If you do not you may jeopardise any offer of a place to study at the University which you may have received.

Documentation to accompany your completed questionnaire

The Fee Status Questionnaire provides suggestions for the types of documentation you are required to submit in support of the information you provide in the completed form. However, we may ask for further information if we cannot determine your fee status.

First day of the academic year

The 'first day of the academic year' is a technical term that is defined in the fees and Student Support regulations, which say that if your academic year starts between:

  • 1 August and 31 December inclusive, the first day of the academic year is 1 September
  • 1 January and 31 March inclusive, the first day of the academic year is 1 January
  • 1 April and 30 June inclusive, the first day of the academic year is 1 April
  • 1 July and 31 July inclusive, the first day of the academic year is 1 July

This date is used regardless of when your course term starts or when your lectures commence.

Read the text carefully to see whether you are being told to think about the ‘first day of the academic year you are paying fees for’, or the ‘first day of the first academic year of the course’.
