Definition of an EU student

The UK government announced on 23 June 2020 that EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals will no longer be eligible for home fees or Student Finance England support for courses starting in the academic year 2021/22 and beyond, except where they have protected rights under the EU Withdrawal agreement. If you started your course in 2020/21 or earlier, existing rules around Home fees and financial support still apply.

Irish nationals

On 1 September 2022, if you are an Irish citizen, and you have been living in the UK and Islands, the EEA, Switzerland or the UK overseas territories since 1 September 2019 you will be eligible for HOME fees. For full details, see UKCISA’s guide.
