NeuroAccess provides neurology teaching and educational support to hospitals in resource-limited settings. We currently work in Lusaka, Zambia and Beira, Mozambique. The project aims to improve skills in clinical neurology to leave a legacy of practical knowledge that can be passed on.
Much of the burden of neurological disease in these areas is related to infection. As such we work closely with our collaborators, The Encephalitis Society and the Liverpool Brain Infections Group. NeuroAccess is funded primarily by the Liverpool NeuroPACES course. We have received additional funding from The Encephalitis Society and the Association of British Neurologists (ABN).
The project was set up in 2012 by Professor Benedict Michael and Professor Sam Nightingale and continues to provide annual teaching visits by UK neurologists.
