We say goodbye to AOM 2024 with five awards
The University of Liverpool Management School’s (ULMS) academics have had another successful Academy of Management (AOM) conference, this year in Chicago, returning with five awards from the 84th Annual Meeting.
Following her first AOM decoration as Organization Development and Change Division Distinguished Scholar in 2021, Profession Julia Balogun was announced as one of the winners of the 2024 Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division Joanne Martin Trailblazer Award.
This biannual award, also received by Professor Paula Jarzabkowski (The University of Queensland), Professor David Seidl (University of Zurich) and Professor Richard Whittington (University of Oxford), recognises scholars who have taken a leadership role in the field of OMT, by opening up new lines of thinking or inquiry.
Deputy Dean (Faculty and Accreditations), Professor Caroline Gatrell, received the 2023 Best Qualitative Article of the Year Award from the Organizational Research Methods Journal.
The award recognises the quality of her paper, ‘Theorizing Through Literature Reviews: The Miner-Prospector Continuum’, co-authored by Professor Dermot Breslin from Rennes School of Business.

The AOM Annual Meeting is the world's premier event for scholarly engagement in management and the largest gathering of management and organisation scholars in the world.
Under the theme Innovating for the Future: Policy, Purpose, and Organization, Management School’s academics and PhD students took part in more than 50 activities, including paper sessions, symposiums and professional development workshops.
During the conference, our colleagues presented their latest research insights and examined the interplay of innovation, policy and purpose, as a lens for rethinking conventional ways of leading, managing and organising.
“This vibrant and dynamic city has been the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable conference, that has brought together expert colleagues in management research around the world,” said Julia.
“We enjoyed every moment of AOM 2024, with each session introducing fresh perspectives and sparking new debates, which were both challenging and transformative.
“We look forward to continue working with like-minded colleagues and cannot wait to see everyone back in Copenhagen next year.”
Alongside it’s academic contribution to the annual meeting, the School also sponsored the annual meeting’s badges, with a widely praised pocket-style design that showcased the School’s brand throughout the five-day conference, reinforcing the University’s internationalisation strategy.
