Two guest speakers presenting to undergraduate students as part of employability event

Final year BA Marketing, BA International Business, and BA Business Management students were invited to take part in an employability event at the Management School on Wednesday 15 March 2023.

The School invited a number of employers from different industries to speak to students and provide employability tips and skills. Students heard from Tom McElroy, Manager in the Major Programmes Consulting Practice at Deloitte, Barry Challinor, Audit Senior Associate at BDO, Greg Hunter, Project Manager at LCR Graduate Scheme, and Bethan Topping, Account Executive at Bechtle Direct UK.

Also invited to the event were Management School alumni Scott McDonald, BA Marketing with a Year in Industry (2019) and Marketing & Partnerships at Betmate, and Tom Dee, BA Business Management (2021) and Regional Aftermarket Sales Manager at JCB, who were on hand to share their experiences in what makes a graduate employable.

Throughout the event, speakers discussed the importance of taking time to construct CVs and cover letters as well as recommending to students to draw on their work experience, and extracurricular activities and not underestimating the power of networking and utilisation of LinkedIn.

Commenting on the success of the event Dr. Ahmed Al-Abdin, Director of Studies for undergraduate marketing programmes, said: “The employability showcase was a major success and the students thoroughly enjoyed the event and remarked that it had provided them with a whirlpool of hints/tips to support them with their graduate employability pursuits.

“The post-event networking session was also very lively and saw students networking with the employers and alumni. It is events like these that provide invaluable opportunities for our students and equips them with the employability wisdom they need to secure that all-important graduate role.”

The recent joint event from the three undergraduate programmes is just one of many Employability Extra-Curricular activities that take place for Management School students.
