Staff card

The University issues all staff and students with a smart card which combines the use of a number of University services onto a single card.

You can use your card to:

  • Enter University buildings and car parks
  • Enter the Sports & Fitness Centre
  • Enter the libraries and borrow books
  • Use the printing and photocopying services
  • Use Loyalty Plus, load your card with credit and pay for food and drink at campus outlets.
How do I obtain a smart card?

If you are a student, you will be issued your card by your department at the start of your studies.

Staff and Honorary staff can request a staff card via IT Services. You will need to upload a photograph via TULIP first. You will need your University username and password to access TULIP.

To upload a photograph:

  1. Logon to TULIP
  2. Choose Administration > Personal > Request Staff Smart Card
  3. Read the guidance to make sure your photograph meets the criteria
  4. Once you have uploaded a photograph, you should raise a service request to arrange for your card to be printed and collected from the Campus Support Administration Office at Bedford House.

Staff and Honorary staff should request a replacement card via the IT Service Desk. Collection from Campus Support Admin Office, Bedford House. Charges may be incurred.

Will I be able to update my photo for the smart card?

For students, the photograph that you uploaded to Liverpool Life is used on your card.

For staff and Honorary staff, you can upload a photograph for your card by following the instructions below:

  • Logon to TULIP
  • Choose Administration > Personal > Request Staff Smart Card
  • Read the guidance to make sure your photograph meets the criteria

Please note: if you already have a card, uploading a new photograph will not automatically request a replacement card. Once you have uploaded your photograph, if you require a replacement card, you should raise a ticket to arrange collection from Campus Support Admin Office, Bedford House.

Staff: What happens if I change my family name?

Contact the IT Service Desk.

Staff: Will money be deducted from my salary as a result of using the card?

Salary deduction will be made for car parking charges assuming you have requested car park access.

If you use the card to pay for goods at one of the hospitality outlets, the goods will not be charged out of your salary. You need to have pre-loaded the card with cash - that balance can be used to pay for food or drinks at University hospitality outlets across campus. If the card is lost you will need to cancel it to protect your balance.

What do I do if my card is not opening the doors I am authorised to access?
