New paper on Grocery Click&Collect catchments

Grocery shopping has emerged as a rapidly developing category in online retailing. This has dramatically impacted channel selection within the grocery sector. Resultant of this shift to online, companies have provided further channels to obtain groceries. Click&collect is relatively new to the grocery sector because of the requirements of both temperature-controlled storage and collection facilities. In order to explore click&collect, bespoke catchments are created for a national Supermarket chain for each collection point within England.

Using the spatial interaction method of ‘Huff gravity modelling’ catchments for 95 click&collect sites and generated. These catchments allow for the exploratory analysis of the spatial variation of catchment size and store performance. Further analysis is performed using a regression-based approach to consider influences of competition, store characteristics and socio-economic features on click&collect site performance.
