Remedial farriery is a vital component of our Orthopaedic Service. A team approach between the orthopedic specialists and Mr. Hughes ensures that each horse receives individualised treatment for their lameness, which is tailored to their conformation and shoeing requirements. Horses treated range from the young foal with crooked limbs (angular and flexural limb) to the older horse with laminitis.
Treatments include the use of traditional shoes, plastic shoes, sole packing and the use of acrylic hoof fillers to repair hoof wall defects. A weekly clinic is held so that horses can be assessed regularly, for optimum monitoring of progress.
