Anaesthesia

We have a dedicated, highly qualified team of veterinary surgeons who are specialist equine anaesthetists available 24 hours a day, to support the surgical and medical teams.

Standing sedation or general anaesthesia is required by many of our cases. All members of the team hold or are working towards the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia, which is the 'gold' standard for the field. They work with the latest knowledge and equipment to administer safe care.

Our operating theatres are fitted with piped gas supplies, state-of-the-art large animal ventilators and an array of equipment to monitor vital signs. CCTV linked recovery boxes allow closely observed post-operative care and the ability to offer rope or controlled recoveries.

The anaesthesia service is also an integral part of our critical care team, managing patients in our intensive care units to administer effective pain-relief, fluid therapy and neonatal care.

There is a document containing information for owners whose horses are undergoing general anaesthesia available to download here: General Anaesthetic Information .

If you are a referring veterinary surgeon and have any questions or queries about anaesthesia or would like advice about a case you are seeing please give the office a call on 0151 794 6041. Our experienced and dedicated team are always happy to help.
