Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships at the School of Histories, Languages & Cultures, University of Liverpool
The University of Liverpool’s School of Histories, Languages & Cultures invites expressions of interest for the 2018 Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships scheme.
These awards aim to provide career development opportunities for early career researchers (less than five years since their doctoral viva) who have a proven record of research but have not held a full-time permanent academic post in the UK. They enable Fellows to undertake a significant piece of publishable work and should lead to a more permanent academic position. Staff in the Department of History include a wide range of scholars who work on Britain and Europe, together with expertise in the history of Africa, the Americas, Asia (including India and China), Australia, and the Atlantic and Mediterranean worlds. The department has also provided a unique and specialised environment for archival education for over 60 years. Our department boasts a wide-ranging temporal reach, from the medieval through to the early modern, later modern, and contemporary eras.
The department is an active participant in the School’s inter-disciplinary research centres, including the Centre for the Study of International Slavery, the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Eighteenth-Century Worlds research centre. Since 2010, we have been part of the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures, one of four Schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School also includes the departments of Modern Languages & Cultures, Irish Studies, Politics, and Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology.
Those interested in applying for a Fellowship at the University of Liverpool are invited to submit expressions of interest to hlcrsrch@liverpool.ac.uk by 5pm on Wednesday 10th January 2018, consisting of the following:
- CV (2 pages max) and a list of publications (1 page max)
- An outline (2 pages max) of the research proposal, including intended publication outputs
- 100-word abstract
- Identification of a potential mentor
Applicants supported by the Department and School will be informed by 17th January. All shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a Faculty workshop on 1st February, 11am-1pm, which will include presentations and advice about the scheme and give candidates the opportunity to meet with their chosen mentor.
Following the workshop, candidates will be invited to send their fully developed application outline (following the template available on the Leverhulme Trust Grant Application System) for final peer-review and selection by the Faculty by 8th February, noon.
Selected candidates to put an application forward to the Leverhulme Trust with the University of Liverpool will be notified by 16th February (Leverhulme deadline: 1st March).
