Volunteer Paddlers Needed: Confucius Institute Dragon Boat Race 2024

This April, Liverpool is hosting the annual Confucius Institute Dragon Boat Race and we are recruiting volunteer paddlers to join our team.

Traditionally, five Confucius Institutes from universities in the Northwest of England have competed in the race. We are pleased to once again extend invitations to the University of Manchester, the University of Central Lancashire, the University of Lancaster, and Edge Hill University. This year, we are extending the invitation to institutes from the surrounding region to participate in a nine-team dragon boat race.

Join our team as a volunteer paddler and celebrate an ancient Chinese tradition!

Why Join?

The Dragon Boat festival is a significant traditional holiday celebrated in China and by Chinese communities worldwide. The festival is marked by the racing of dragon boats and the eating of zongzi, pyramid-shaped dumplings made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.

By joining our team as a volunteer paddler, you will be embracing a centuries old tradition that celebrates cultural heritage and the spirit of community. Not only that, but you’ll experience the thrill of racing with a close knit team.
