Central Teaching Hub facilities

The Central Teaching Hub (CTH) is where much of the undergraduate teaching within the Faculty of Science and Engineering takes place.

The CTH and laboratory facilities means Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Sciences and Archaeology students can have increased time in practical classes that previously.

Accessibility

To provide an inclusive and integrated teaching experience the CTH is a fully DDA compliant building, demonstrating the University’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of building quality but also ensure it is accessible and usable by all.

Sustainability

The CTH has been designed to meet the BREEAM “Excellent” criteria, which is extremely demanding for laboratory buildings due to the large amounts of energy consumed and the difficulty in minimising losses.

With state of the art detectors, students can use this lab to become familiar with technology used in industry.

This space is entirely flexible, it can support teaching as well as poster presentations and conferences.

This large lab is for flexible learning within the areas of geology, geography, geophysics, oceanography, ecology, marine biology, physics and archaeology.

Computer Training Centre

A large teaching space equipped with PCs for each student as well as wall mounted display monitors to aid teaching.

High Service Laboratory

High service laboratory

This is a synthetic chemistry lab equipped with fume cupboards, Gas Chromatography (GC) machines and a Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer for students to use to analyse samples.

General Chemistry Laboratory

General chemistry laboratory

This spaced is used for teaching of analytical and physical measurements, as well as straightforward synthetic chemistry experiments.
