Progress to Postgrad: Thalia
Posted on: 4 August 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025
Thalia Holliday, a Pharmacology graduate, continued their journey at the University of Liverpool, studying for an MRes in Clinical Science and building on the foundations of their undergraduate degree.
What motivated you to pursue postgraduate study, and when did you realise it was the right path for you?
I really enjoyed my undergraduate honours research project. I had also completed a 2 month research studentship between my second and third year, which sparked my desire to pursue post graduate research.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study, and how did you overcome them?
I have found post graduate study to demand a lot more time and therefore time management is really important. I enjoy that as it means that you can get ahead and prepared better than I felt I could at undergraduate, but if you struggle with time management I would definitely be prepared to work on that at post graduate level.
Is there anything you are doing outside of your study, such as part-time work or extra curricular activities that has supported you development whilst studying, how has this support you?
I work part-time and make sure I allocate time for hobbies like the gym. I find this gives me better clarity when studying.
If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?
Do your best and everything will work out. Pursue something that genuinely interests you, rather than the obvious next step, and you will thank yourself for it.

Graduate Outcomes Survey
The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
