What motivated you to pursue postgraduate study, and when did you realise it was the right path for you?

I earlier became interested in machine learning and AI, and when I was doing my BEng project on time series forecasting (using statistical and deep learning models) in my third year I realised that this is the right path for me.

What were the biggest challenges you faced during the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study, and how did you overcome them?

The knowledge gap was the main challenge. Coming from an engineering background I did not know a lot of essential topics from studying a maths and stats undergraduate degree – so I spent whole summer and studied relevant topics every day to be prepared for my master’s course.

Is there anything you are doing outside of your studies that has supported your development whilst studying?

I took several courses on YouTube, Coursera, EdX, and other websites. Those courses helped me a lot.

If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?

Love your failures! Failures are the most valuable lessons that you get for free.

If you learn to analyse your failures (especially for your applications), you will be much ahead of most of your peers.
