I Got Hired: Luke

After graduating with an LLB Law degree as part of the Class of 2025, Ruby secured a role as a Graduate Trainee Insurance Broker at Griffiths & Armour, an Aon company, taking the next step in her professional journey within the insurance industry.

Looking back, what influenced your decision to take your career in a different direction from what you first imagined? 

I've always wanted to work in a professional environment, and whilst I really enjoyed studying law, I never pin pointed which legal route or specialism I wanted to pursue. In my final year at university, I was inspired by a family friend to do some research into insurance broking and she recommended an amazing firm, Griffiths and Armour, so I applied to their graduate scheme and the further into the application and interview stages I got, the more I wanted to work there. 

Are there any skills or ways of thinking from your degree that you still use in your current role, even though the industry is different? 

Attention to detail, contract review, communication, confidence, presentation skills, staying in tune with current affairs, study and research skills, organisation and ability to prioritise tasks 

For graduates considering a similar change, what’s one piece of advice you’d share? 

Everyone gets imposter syndrome, even colleagues who have been in the industry for years, and there is no such thing as a silly question, so never feel afraid to ask for help as everyone has to start somewhere.
