Stepping Away: Chyna
Posted on: 17 October 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Chyna is a Class of 2024 LLB Law graduate who is now working as Head of Sales and Data Protection at Automated Reception.
How did you hear about your role and why did you decide to apply for it?
Law is the foundation of everything, I wanted to better understand my rights, how things worked, and how I can help protect others.
How did you get to where you are now?
I continued to stay in work alongside my degree, and I built up my sales experience. However, I would have never got this job if it wasn’t for my Law degree, where I chose to specialise in the regulation of emerging technologies, which has given me the confidence and ability to help with drafting policies, understanding and preventing risk and taking a leadership role at an ambitious AI company.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
I enjoy managing a team, attending international conference conferences and building sales strategies alongside data protection frameworks and privacy policies to ensure the security of our business.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The first month or so after I finished my degree, I felt a little lost. I moved back to London which only lasted for about three months before coming back to Liverpool, where I found a place to call home. The job markets competitive but it really is a numbers game, you must keep going and I assure you that your opportunity is waiting just around the corner. It might not be what you initially set out to find - Stay open and see what you fall in love with!
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
If things are getting too much, please get in touch with the university and ask for flexibility. I was hit with some unfortunate challenges in my last year, and I considered dropping out. I didn’t and I asked for help, and now earning a 2:1 Law degree is one of my biggest achievements in life!
