Progress to Postgrad: Hattie

Posted on: 21 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Hattie graduated in 2024 with a Psychology degree and continued her studies at the University of Liverpool with a master's in Human Resources.

How did you hear about your course?

As I was already a student in the University of Liverpool, I knew there was an offer for a reduced fee to continue your studies with Liverpool by doing a masters degree. I decided to apply for my masters in Human Resources as I have always had an interest in people and how to help them work at the best of their ability.

How did you get to where you are now?

My undergrad prepared me for my masters as I was used to essay writing and exams. That helped me to approach my masters with more confidence in my academic ability. Making friends on my course was helpful to support each other through our projects.

Your favourite experience?

We had a consultancy day where we had to work as a team to provide a presentation with a solution for a real life problem an organisation was facing. The managers of the organisation came to the univeristy and we had to present to them. It was useful for preparing for real work expectations.

The most challenging part of your journey?

Trying to figure out what to do next! I didn't know whether to carry on with education or look for work. I also wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do as a career, so I thought a masters would give me more time and more qualifications/ options to figure that out.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

AAim to do something that you like or that interests you. I have worked in roles and studied things that have not suited me to gain experience, and although beneficial for career development purposes, it highlighted to me how important it is to find something that you can enjoy. I enjoyed my masters course, and it taught me the vitality of trying to find a job that can align with my values, so that will be my aim in the future.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
