Progress to Postgrad:Charlie
Posted on: 31 October 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Charlie Guy is a Class of 2024 BA Geography graduate who went on to study for a PGCE in Secondary Education at the University of Reading.
How did you hear about your course?
I wanted to get into teaching but also wanted to live at home for a while, and the University of Reading has one of the best PGCE courses in the country, so it worked out very well.
How did you get to where you are now?
Through the support of my university tutor. Having done two placements at two excellent schools in the local area, I got offered a full time role, post degree at my second placement.
Your favourite experience?
The inspiration I can provide to tomorrows excellent geographers, it’s lovely to see pupils have a love for the subject that I enjoy so much.
The most challenging part of your journey?
Having surgery mid-course and then have to teach whilst on crutches made things infinitely more difficult than usual!
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Allow yourself time to switch off and not think about whatever it is you go into, you need the headspace.

Graduate Outcomes Survey
The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
