Progressing: Mary
Posted on: 7 October 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Mary Takwoingi is a Class of 2024 LLB Law with a Year Abroad graduate who now works at Dac Beachcroft as a Paralegal.
How did you hear about your role?
I applied for a paralegal role to gain more experience to help me be more successful with training contract applications.
How did you get to where you are now?
I did lots of legal work experience throughout my degree, such as working at the Family Law Clinic, doing a vacation scheme, and working at the ECHR. All of these experiences gave me things to talk about at an assessment centre for my current paralegal role.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
Improving my legal drafting skills.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
One of the most challenging parts of my graduate journey has been progressing to the last stages of training contract applications – for example, securing a vacation scheme but then not being able to convert that opportunity into a training contract offer. Although it is disappointing, it has taught me resilience and how to improve my approach for future applications.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Say yes to as many opportunities as you can, even if they're not exactly in the area you think you're most interested in, because gaining a wide range of experiences can open unexpected doors!
