Progress to Postgrad: Meg
Posted on: 22 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
After completing a BSc Chemistry degree in 2024 Meg stayed at the University of Liverpool to undertake a master's in Digital Chemistry
How did you hear about your course?
I had many talks with academics and other PhD students to see what it realistically looked like and what was to be expected throughout research to see if it was the right decision for me. I was always motivated to do research and I love a new challenge, so I knew a PhD would be for me. I completed multiple summer placements within research groups and shadowed researchers so that I could make informed decisions. Many academics in the Chemistry department have supported me throughout my academic journey, and helped me to decide the path I wanted to go on.
Your favourite experience?
Being able to go to Basel to the Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Conference, ran by Scientific Update, to present a poster discussing some of the MSc projects I completed.
The most challenging part of your journey?
Struggling with neurodivergence and studying and working out what works for me.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Ask questions and ask everyone! Don't be afraid to ask for any opportunities, work experience, shadowing students or internships. People genuinely want to help!
