I Got Hired: Keira

Posted on: 16 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Accounting & Finance graduate Keira now works at Robert S Boys Chartered Accountants as a Client Accountant/Level 7 apprentice.

How did you hear about your role?

I found my current role on Indeed, the requirements were a 2:1, I achieved a 2:2 but applied anyway. I applied because it gave the opportunity to progress my career through the ACA pathway which was something I was definitely interested in, it's also a small company which allows me to take on more responsibility, deal with clients of all sizes, and gain experience in many different areas such as auditing, tax and accounting.

How did you get where you are now?

I had no accounting work experience, but shared my determination and ability in the interview. My managers hired me and I started a couple weeks later. I've been here for almost five months now and love it! I started my Level 7 accounting and tax apprenticeship in August and passed my first exam last week! Lots of people have supported me with this, including my managers who believe in my ability, as well as my family who encourage me to aim high. Being a chartered accountant motivates me as its my end goal for the next 3 years. This will open lots of doors for me and expose me to some more great opportunities which I look forward to!

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

My favourite experience as part of my current role is the split between work and college. The two go hand in hand, work helps me to apply my experience to the exam, and the exam helps me to understand particular parts of my daily tasks in work. I also love the fact that I'm not in one place all the time as some weeks I have college and others I have work.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The most challenging part was learning from scratch. I had no practical experience prior to my current role, so it was challenging learning lots of new information and software's at once, but with time and practice it's gotten much easier and I've grown to love the challenge!

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Believe in yourself, and don't settle until you find the perfect role for your goals and ambitions.
