I Got Hired: Zac

Posted on: 11 September 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Zac Rabanal-Hunt is a BSc Geography graduate who now works as an Associate Sustainability and ESG Consultant Orbis Advisory Ltd.

How did you hear about your role?

I reached out to companies through a number of avenues to gain internship experience including LinkedIn, company contact information and personal network. I found out about the opportunity through LinkedIn and fortunately got the opportunity to do an internship in the summer of 2023.

How did you get to where you are now?

I completed a 3-month internship during the summer of 2023. I was fortunate that the company had a last-minute dropout, which opened up a space that I was able to fill. I was the only intern without previous industry experience and often felt out of my depth. Despite this, I recognised the opportunity I had been given and made a conscious effort not to be disheartened by my lack of experience.

After the internship, I was offered a part-time role while I completed my final year at Liverpool. As this went well, I was then offered a full-time position after graduation.

I find motivation through the values of Orbis Advisory—to put people and planet first—and I truly believe the work we do has a net positive impact on society and the environment. Since joining full-time, I have taken every opportunity to learn, reminding myself that it’s important not just to go through the motions, but to work with purpose and focus, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

After six months at Orbis, I was promoted from Analyst to Associate Consultant. I am keen to keep working towards a promotion to Consultant.

I’ve been lucky enough to receive great support from my circle of friends and family, who have shared their experiences and advice throughout. I’m particularly fortunate that my older brother, who works in a similar industry, has always been willing to set time aside to provide guidance and reassurance.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

I am currently working with a graduate-level research university to create an ambitious and detailed net zero plan for their campus and the city-wide community.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Embracing the fact that mistakes are unavoidable, but not letting these mistakes knock my confidence, as they are an important part of the journey.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Explore various experiences and opportunities. Be resilient; not everything will go as planned, but any momentum is beneficial. Even if it feels like things aren't working out, you're still gaining valuable experience.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
