I Got Hired: Theo
Posted on: 23 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Theo is a Class of 2024 BA French and Hispanic Studies graduate who works at Brentwood School as an Alumni Relations Officer.
How did you hear about your role?
I heard about the role through word of mouth. I've always been interested in marketing and communications, so when I learned about this opportunity, it felt like a great fit. It also made sense to return to a familiar environment where I could gain valuable experience close to home while saving on costs.
How did you get where you are now?
I've always enjoyed people-facing work, which started with my roles as a Student Ambassador at the University of Liverpool and at a children's activity day camp. Those experiences really shaped my interest in events and communications. Studying French and Spanish also helped me build confidence in communicating clearly and thinking quickly under pressure - skills that have been really useful in getting to where I am now.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
One of my favourite experiences has been project managing the Brentwood School Times twice now - the school's end-of-year magazine. It covers everything from the Prep and Senior schools to Alumni news, spanning over 120 pages, with 4,000 copies sent out and used as promotional material. Seeing all the content come together into such a polished publication was so rewarding. I also loved helping to event-manage a full-day bursary fundraising event that ran from 6am-8pm and involved over 1,000 participants who ran, swam or cycled to raise funds. We managed to raise more than £18,000 for bursaries, and it was amazing to see the energy and teamwork that made it all happen.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The day after graduation was honestly one of the weirdest days of my life. For the first time, there wasn't a clear roadmap or next step laid out for me - my future was completely up to me. The period after university isn't talked about enough and how confusing it can be, but it taught me a lot about patience and trust in the process. In the end, things do work themselves out, and unexpected opportunities often arise when you stay open and proactive.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Follow what genuinely interests you. Don't try to force yourself into something that doesn't feel right or pick the "smart" option just because it sounds impressive. That path that truly excites you is the one where you'll thrive and find the most fulfilment in the long run.
