How did you hear about your role?

I live near the care home and have heard about it a few times online in forums related to people progressing in the field of clinical psychology. This position provides a wealth of experience with clientele that would be valuable to my future career aspirations.

How did you get where you are now?

A large part of my career journey relates to advice received from my academic advisor (Mr Christopher Brown) and the UOL careers advisors. I was unsure whether it would be more beneficial to pursue a postgraduate or obtain experience through a job in a related field. After much deliberation I made the decision to pursue experience, and attempt to improve the quality of life of others along the way. My family and friends have been incredibly supportive of my decision and have been fantastic with advice and additional motivation. This decision has been fantastic for my future career and has further increased my motivation to chase my dream of a career in clinical psychology.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

My favourite experience in this position has been taking clients on day trips that they would otherwise be unable to experience. For example, accompanying clients on boat trips or taking them out for dinner/lunch and seeing the joy it brings them is a feeling unlike any other.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The most challenging part of my graduate journey had to be the initial decision of what would be best for me currently, and my future aspirations. All the fantastic advice I received over this time from multiple sources made this challenging time a lot less stressful than it could have been. Looking to others who have been through similar challenging periods, regardless of their career fields provided valuable insight into the positives and negatives of each outcome.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

To remember that you have your whole lives ahead of you. Do not to rush into any career decision without seeking advice from those who have been in a similar situation.
