I Got Hired: Riley

Posted on: 21 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Riley is a BSc Mathematics from our Class of 2024 who now works at Resulting IT as an Analyst.

How did you hear about your role?

Handshake, I applied because I was looking for data analyst roles as I specialised in statistics on my degree. Turns out this was for a Consultant role.

How did you get where you are now?

I was able to get this job because I had made the most of the societys during my time at university, being a part of LUMS and LUST as I am a musician. At the assessment centre for this job the CEO asked if anyone had any interesting hobbies as an ice breaker question. I was able to answer straight away and say I’m a musician and we connected as he plays guitar, this obviously contributed to me making a good impression and getting the role. So I’d say not spending all my time doing my degree, actually expanding my other skills, helped me get where I am now.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

Having the opportunity to consult for Lindt and visit their UK office in London and eat chocolate.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Definitely the job application process. Applying to 100 different jobs and getting constant rejections or getting so far with an application then falling at the last hurdle. It takes a lot of perseverance.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Your degree isn’t the be all and end all post graduation. Take time to diversify yourself and your skills because it might just be the thing that sets you apart from the crowd and gets you that job. You might not end up doing a job related to your degree in a few years anyway.
