I Got Hired: Rhiannon
Posted on: 18 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Rhiannon is a Class of 2024 LLB Law with a Year Abroad graduate who now works as a Paralegal at Leigh Day.
How did you hear about your role?
I'd known of Leigh Day throughout my undergraduate as i'd always focused my energy on ethical and non-commercial firms as my interests lay in human right, humanitarian law and the environment/land law. So when I saw a job advertisement for Leigh Day to work as a paralegal, i think on LinkedIn, it was a no brainer for me to apply for the role knowing i'd have the chance to work on one of the biggest emission scandals and environmental cases currently happening the the UK and EU.
How did you get where you are now?
I think I’m very lucky because I didn't do or have the stereotypical university experience because of covid and because I was always to scared to put myself out there, so i have little experience other than the mini-Jessup and been a founding member of a society. But what i think made it for me was all my volunteering. Since I was a young I've volunteered in food banks, I used to volunteer for one that basically became family and they worked with the Red Cross to help asylum seekers, I'd helped with a food bank to give benefits checks/help through university, as well as volunteering for Citizens advise for the EUSS Scheme and so on. Further, I had always been motivated to make a change in my career and life and knowing this firm supported my beliefs and gave me freedoms to still protest for issues like Palestine meant I felt comfortable in the recruitment stage and having this experience and mindset I think really shone through over my lack of stereotypical experience, that and the fact I did a dissertation in a more niche subject (something which they asked a lot about in my interview). Leigh Day's recruitment entailed a formal face to face interview as well as competency tasks, its very formal but also not at the same time its hard to explain. I'd say everyone has always supported me in life, but no one was more surprised than my mum when i went into a law career, but she's always been my number one fan who, as a single mum ,has worked harder than anyone I know to provide and support, whilst demonstrating what true resilience achieves and that really motivations me to succeed.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
I really enjoy my role because it is not the stereotypical paralegal role and i'd say my favourite thing i've had the opportunity to do so far is comb through lots and lots of evidence and draft notes on issues relating to the my findings.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
It is definitely finishing university and being chucked out into the real world. We've been in education since such a young age, we know no different and it is very confronting, but everything found its way and worked itself out and now i am in a job i love, with a firm i genuinely like.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Be yourself and don't just apply for anything and everything, remember not having the pitch perfect CV won't mean you won't get a job.
