I Got Hired: Natasha

Posted on: 11 September 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Natasha Ahmed is a Class 0f 2024 BSc Biochemistry graduate who now works at Centrica as a Net Zero Analyst.

How did you hear about your role?

I started looking for graduate jobs in my final year and thought that my skills would translate well to an analytics job. While looking, the Centrica graduate scheme popped up. It was a well-known graduate scheme at one of the largest energy suppliers in the UK and, pretty handily, based not far from where I lived - so I thought why not?

How did you get to where you are now?

My parents encouraged me to apply to graduate schemes even though I was very nervous about my limited experience, especially after reading so much about how competitive the graduate job market can be. The process was pretty standard for most graduate scheme roles. There were multiple stages: a psychometric test, online interview and an assessment centre.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

It's hard to name just one. The scheme has a rotation of 3 different placements in different areas of the business; so I love the opportunity to experience working in different roles and teams. Also, there's a huge graduate cohort that I'm a part of which has meant I've made some great friends, and it doesn't feel like much of a jump from university to working life.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Honestly, probably getting adjusted to a) living at home and b) working life. It's definitely a big change from late nights spent studying and hanging out with mates all the time. But I've found that I love the routine and I'm able to save loads being at home - which is handy for when I come to visit my uni pals.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Just apply to the job, course - or whatever it is you want to do! It doesn't matter if you have no experience, or if the market seems too daunting. You'll never know if you don't put yourself out there, and you might surprise yourself like I did.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
