I Got Hired: Meiven

Posted on: 16 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Meiven is an Aerospace Engineering graduate from our Class of 2024 who works at MBDA as a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer.

How did you hear about your role?

I was working at McDonald's part-time after my course finished and I was browsing job listings on Gradcracker. Saw this position and it looked really interesting and was a workplace that complemented my degree very nicely so I decided to apply during my breaktime.

How did you get where you are now?

The recruitment process was definitely the challenging part, I applied to three different roles in the company (I was informed by email that this was encouraged so be sure to read any emails sent by companies). And I really tried to make myself stand out on my application questions, highlighting key strengths and weaknesses that would be useful for the roles and linking back any experiences I've had from previous jobs and during my time at university. Then to my surprise, I had been moved onto a video stage interview. These were a mix of self-recorded video answers to questions relating to the job role and some multiple-choice type questions. This was definitely a bit tricky since there was only one attempt to answer these questions and I'm pretty sure I had waffled-on in some of the questions but the interviewers must've been really interested in my answers because a couple of weeks later, I had received an email stating that I was successful and moved on-to an online assessment centre.

The assessment centre was pretty intense, it lasted from 9am until 3pm and consisted for an hour long 1-to-1 interview and another hour long group interview with other sections such as talking to current grads on the scheme and role-specific QnA's. I spent most of the night before just practicing possible interview questions, using ChatGPT's voice chat feature on desktop to critique my video interview skills and give me feedback. This was definitely a game changer for me because I felt extremely prepared when it came to the 1-to-1 interview.

Tips from me at this stage would definitely be to show the best version of yourself. Dress smart even if it is an online interview, know your CV in and out and have questions prepared to ask and answer, I had a great time with my interviewer, talking casually but professional and even learning more about him too. A week later and I was informed I got the role for the job and did really well during my assessment centre! So definitely do appreciate my parents for supporting me throughout, always wishing me luck and believing in me throughout every stage.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

I haven't started yet and can't say too much about it but so far, the people that have been in contact with me have definitely been great and I think the work-life balance is amazing.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Applying for as many roles is definitely tough, would 100% recommend keeping an open mind and not limiting yourself to one specific area, I applied to automotive jobs while holding an aerospace degree as the skills taught are very similar and can be interchangeable, I even have a coursemate going into finance so there's a lot more things you can do that may not be related to your degree.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

PRACTICE YOUR INTERVIEW SKILLS! It may seem like you're just talking to someone but there's so much more to it. How clear is your speech? Are your experiences relevant? If not, how can you make them relevant? I talked about how learning guitar was my recent big achievement during my interview and talked about how it showed resilience and attention to detail! USE CHATGPT TO PRACTICE! I spent almost 2 hours just having ChatGPT ask me interview questions and then having it critique my answers, providing me with things I could say or expand upon and how my speech is. This was a game-changer!
