I Got Hired: Maxim
Posted on: 23 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Maxim is a BSc Computer Science with Software Engineering graduate who now works for Hawkes Bay Technologies as a Service Desk Engineer.
How did you hear about your role?
I heard about the role from a in law and applied. Service desk is a good place to get experience from a variety of various places and learn more in depth about things such as networks and security. From this I currently plan to move in to cyber security within a few years.
How did you get where you are now?
My degree was a big part of it but also understanding of different technologies from self-study also helped.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
Being able to solve complex problems for people is super rewarding especially when a person has had a lot of issue with a particular problem.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging part was keeping up with all the new information and skills I was learning but I tried my best and it’s been so worthwhile.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
If you are nervous about moving into the industry or maybe can’t find the exact job you want. Just apply for jobs which you want, or which could lead you to were you want to go. It can seem daunting to go straight into work from school as it is a completely different environment, but employers know this, and they will not be expecting you to know anything and everything.
