I Got Hired: Lil

Posted on: 12 September 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Lil Brady, a Town and Regional Planning (MPLAN) graduate, has joined Taylor Wimpey as a Land and Planning Graduate.

How did you hear about your role?

I first came across the role through an advert on LinkedIn, and straight away it caught my eye. Through my studies and work experience in the property sector, I already knew how well-regarded the Taylor Wimpey Graduate Programme was. The role felt like the perfect next step for me, and looking back, applying was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made.

How did you get to where you are now?

Securing my graduate role has been such a rewarding journey. I’ve always tried to go the extra mile, taking on a variety of work experience opportunities across different areas of the development and planning industry to explore where I could make the most impact.

I also got involved in volunteering and was fortunate to lead the UoL Planning Society as President in my final year, which taught me a lot about collaboration and communication. We were really encouraged by our lecturers and peers, which made a great difference. It’s genuinely exciting now to see so many familiar faces from uni at industry events - it feels like we’re all growing into the careers we worked hard for together.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

One of my favourite parts of the role so far has been getting to experience the full development journey - from working with landowners and identifying land opportunities, all the way through to watching homes being built and eventually handed over to customers. The departmental rotations have given me a real understanding of how each stage fits together and how important every milestone is in delivering a successful development. It’s been a great way to learn and see the impact of our work from start to finish. I feel really lucky to be part of such a supportive team. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable in their field, and I’ve learned so much just by working alongside them.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

One challenge early on was getting used to all the technical language and acronyms used across departments. It felt overwhelming at first, but the more I asked questions and got involved in conversations, the more confident I became in using the terminology myself.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

If I could give one piece of advice to future grads, it would be to stay curious and ask lots of questions -even if you think something might be obvious. When I started, I wished I’d realised sooner that it’s okay not to have all the answers right away. Being open to learning from everyone around you not only helps you grow faster but also shows that you’re engaged and eager to develop!

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
