I Got Hired: Kieron

Posted on: 4 September 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Class of 2024 graduate Kieron Tidswell has progressed from the MPlan Town and Regional Planning degree to a role as Planning Officer at Conwy County Borough Council.

How did you hear about your role?

I found the job position on Gradcracker as I knew I wanted to get into a corporate graduate role relating to my degree.

How did you get to where you are now?

I had a strong interest in human geography throughout secondary school and found planning through learning how different countries/cities are organised. Town planning is the process of planning how our built environment can improve people’s lives, whether that be economically, socially, physically or environmentally. Being able to impact the future of places we live and work in really interested me, so I applied!

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The most challenging part of being a graduate for me was adapting to the professional work environment. The actualities of being a planner, whether in the public sector or private sector are very different to the theoretical knowledge you learn at university. That’s why I strongly recommend every student engages in some work experience as it will help you adapt much quicker.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Go to as many events or opportunities you can. Meeting people interested in the same career or currently in the sector/similar sectors can really help you grow your knowledge or find a role more specific to you and it’s always nice to know a face when you go somewhere new as part of your role!

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
