I Got Hired: Holly

Posted on: 19 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Holly is a Class of 2024 English Language with Communication and Media graduate who now works at the Liverpool Echo as a Showbiz Writer.

How did you hear about your role?

Applied online! After doing my 3rd year placement at the ECHO, I made a good impression and they remembered me when I applied.

How did you get where you are now?

Work experience module in my final year at university! I applied for the ECHO placement and it really helped me work out what I enjoyed and what kind of career in journalism I wanted to pursue.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

Most definitely getting to go to watch Gary Barlow! But from a growth perspective, watching my articles gain more and more success on the ECHO’s site while picking up more and more responsibilities – such as covering live events in the city, like the Bruce Springsteen and Dua Lipa shows.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The uncertainty, applying for so many different roles but everything does fall into place!

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Everything happens for a reason! Every rejection is a redirection and what’s meant for you will come naturally! I applied for sooo many jobs, and applied for the ECHO thinking there was no chance... But my university experience was the main factor in what helped me land the role at such a young age, straight out of uni!

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
