I Got Hired: George

Posted on: 26 October 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

George is a Class of 2024 Geography graduate who now works at Plowman Craven as a Graduate Surveyor.

How did you hear about your role?

I heard about this opportunity through a family friend who worked there. I spoke to them about what was involved in surveying and felt I could apply my knowledge from geography to this.

How did you get to where you are now?

I count myself lucky that I knew someone who could help me get a foot in the door for the interview process. However, I still believe that I made a great impression during the interview which led to their decision to hire me.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

The amount that I have been able to explore and encounter places that I never thought I would end up working. The role appeals to me as I often work outdoors and in a variety of places.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Having to adapt to an industry that I knew very little about before joining.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

It’s not necessarily what you know but the people you know! Start making connections to people within your interests and things will materialise with enough effort.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
