I Got Hired: Cameron
Posted on: 26 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Cam is a BSc Computer Science with Year in Industry graduate, now working as a Software Engineer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
How did you hear about your role?
I heard about HPE intern role though different job sites and decided to apply. I worked as an intern for a year, then continued to work in a part-time capacity during my final year of university. I have since gone on to continue here as a graduate software engineer.
How did you get where you are now?
I would massively recommend doing a year in industry. To gain industrial experience and develop my work ethic before my final year of university was crucial. It also provided the comfort of not having to apply for jobs and instead being able to concentrate on my final year.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
The social aspect of working in a group, bringing together a group of people to solve a complex solution – sitting down at a whiteboard and discussing different solutions and then converging on one.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
Moving to a new city, is always hard, whether it is for university or for a Job. Settling in with a house and getting comfortable with where you are, even if that is away from where your home is, is important.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Go to all the lectures, and do the extra reading. You might not get another opportunity in life to be so close to experts in a field, so just learn and try new ideas.
