I Got Hired: Aravind
Posted on: 27 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Aravind is a Class of 2024 Philosophy, Politics & Economics graduate who now works at Leidos UK as a Business Graduate.
How did you hear about your role?
I had a real desire to work in a client role in technology throughout my time in Liverpool, and specifically, I wanted to work for a large US company. This was a necessity for me, especially after spending time in New York. I continued my applications and came across Leidos on BrightNetwork. What really drew me to the graduate scheme was the ability to rotate in different business functions. I felt that this early stage of my career should have a large focus on building skills, and Leidos ticked all the boxes.
How did you get where you are now?
After my time at the University of Liverpool, I took a year out to travel and do part-time work while continuing my applications. The biggest part of the recruitment process was applying early and tailoring my CV. Practicing the recruitment process techniques (STAR, being relaxed, and psychometric tests), I received so many rejections. But, I just had a gut feeling it would all work out, and the people who really supported me were my parents. There were very few arguments about what my plan was after university; they had full belief in me and trusted the process.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
My favourite experience so far in my current role has to be the depth of work I am able to see. Having rotations in various business functions allows me to network with a range of individuals and understand where my interests lie. Being able to know that the work I do contributes significantly to society is also a great feeling.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The rejections! This was the biggest part and the hardest to overcome. After putting in effort and doing well in interviews to receive nothing was painful, but worth it when you finally get that yes. Believe me, my ego was hurt!
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Have faith and keep applying. Apply to everything (within reason) because you have nothing to lose. And trust me it will all work out absolutely fine.
