I Got Hired: Grace

Posted on: 14 October 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Grace graduated with 2024 with an Anatomy and Human Biology degree. She now works as a Trainee Endoscopic Sales Specialist at Karl Storz UK.

How did you hear about your role?

A friend of mine got in to the industry. At first it didn't interest me as I never thought I was cut out for sales, however as she revealed the benefits it started to appeal to me more and more. Then got approached by a recruiter hiring for the company on LinkedIn, went for the interview, and got the job!

How did you get to where you are now?

I think having a strong and up-to-date LinkedIn profile really helped, as this is how my profile was spotted and I was approached for the job. I think my academic background helped me in terms of the decision process, but also my extra curricular activities. I think what really helped was tailoring my CV and interview to mirror the company and what they wanted, as I demonstrated how each of my experiences/activities aligned with their wants/values.

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

Meeting so many people and continuing to learn about current situations in the field. I get to see the internal workings of the NHS on a daily basis, interacting with top surgeons in the field and getting to step into their procedures and see how they do their jobs.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Not really knowing what I wanted to do. I came out of university just going with the flow and seeing what was out there. I didn't put much pressure on myself but it was hard seeing lots of my peers get jobs and moving on whilst I still had no idea what I wanted to do. I also have struggled with adapting to working life, not in terms of the hours or the routine (because I love this), but just knowing expectations and how to perform well in your job (communication etc).

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Don't put too much pressure on it. I know most things don't happen as easy as mine did but it came when I least expected it and was content with not fully knowing what I wanted yet. Be flexible and open-minded.
