Iacopo Boaron Oterois a BSc Computer Science with Software Development graduate who is co-founder of an AI-Powered ESG Startup.
Why did you decide to start your own business?
To be honest, I found it easier to start my own business than to land a job straight after graduating as the job market seemed pretty tough. I also really wanted to build something I was passionate about and, for me, that’s where sustainability and AI come in. So I figured why not combine the two and go for it?
How did you get to where you are now?
It all started when I worked at an AI venture studio in Milan, where I helped develop and validate startup ideas. That experience got me really into the whole startup and VC world. After that, I went to the EmTech AI 2025 conference at MIT, where I met my co-founder, Amile. We clicked instantly and, after bouncing around a few ideas, we decided to start our own company. We're still in the early ideation stage, but we’re aiming to focus our startup on sustainability.
Your favourite experience so far?
Honestly, just being my own boss. There's no micromanaging, I can speak openly with my team, and I really enjoy the flexibility that comes with it. It’s nice to be in an environment where you have control over your time and your decisions – it makes the whole journey way more enjoyable.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
Definitely trying to find a job in Computer Science. The market was super slow, and it felt like there were more grads than opportunities. That struggle actually pushed me to look at other options, like building something myself.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Go to as many events as you can and talk to people, because you never know who you might meet. I went to the EmTech conference in Boston not expecting much, and that’s where I met my co-founder. If I hadn’t gone, this whole startup journey wouldn’t have even started!
