Chelsea Hughes, a 2024 BSc Psychology graduate, is Co-Creative Director at Cosy Kreations.
Why did you decide to start your own business?
I started Cosy Kreations in my final year of my undergraduate because I saw how many people, including myself, were craving a creative connection in a world that often feels rushed, isolating, and overwhelming. I wanted to build a space where people could come as they are, express themselves without judgment, and feel a sense of community through creativity.
Whether it’s through painting, journaling, or simply having a conversation over coffee, Cosy Kreations was born out of a desire to make art, wellbeing, and togetherness more accessible and less intimidating. It’s about creating joyful, low-pressure moments where people can just be present — and that’s something I believe we all need more of.
How did you get to where you are now?
With a background in Psychology and youth work, I’ve always been passionate about understanding people and creating spaces that support connection and wellbeing.
My co-founder, Maileen Ng, has always had a creative spirit and a deep love for the arts. We met on a trip to Greece and have been close friends ever since. Her curiosity for artistic expression combined with my interest in what drives human behaviour naturally evolved into the idea for Cosy Kreations. Together, we saw a gap for inclusive, low-pressure spaces where people could explore creativity, build community, and feel at ease — and we’ve been building that vision ever since.
Opportunities like taking part in enterprise programmes, working with organisations such as the NHS, The Florrie, and the University of Liverpool, and collaborating with inspiring individuals have helped me grow the confidence and skills to shape Cosy Kreations. But more than anything, it’s been the support of the community, the people who showed up, believed in the vision, and helped bring ideas to life, that’s carried this forward. My motivation has always been to create spaces I wish existed when I needed them most: welcoming, creative, and healing.
Your favourite experience so far?
One of my favourite experiences has been meeting new people and watching genuine friendships form through our events. It’s amazing to see attendees return, not just for the creativity, but because they’ve found a sense of community. Building those connections and being part of something that brings people together in such a real, meaningful way is what makes this journey so special.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging part of my graduate journey has definitely been balancing a full-time job whilst running a business. Juggling responsibilities, managing time, and staying energised for both has tested my limits—but it's also pushed me to grow faster, become more organised, and truly commit to the vision behind Cosy Kreations.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Start before you’re confident, say yes to things that scare you, and trust that you’ll figure it out along the way. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
