I Got Hired: Amy
Posted on: 11 September 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Amy, a Class of 2024 History and Sociology graduate, shares what it’s really like leaving uni and why finding your way isn’t always straightforward, but can lead to exciting new opportunities.
How did you hear about your role and why did you decide to apply for it?
I first spotted my role of Marketing and Admin Assistant at Agent Marketer on Indeed, having already built experience as a Creative Content Designer for 3 months at a private school and through my own content creation whilst at the University of Liverpool. I felt this was the perfect chance to gain agency experience, diversify my portfolio beyond social media and photography, and grow in a field I’m genuinely passionate about.
How did you get to where you are now?
My journey since graduating hasn’t been the most straightforward, but I’m proud of where it’s taken me.
Starting university during Covid years was challenging, but it pushed me to be productive in new ways. I began sharing content about life in Liverpool and my studies, and what started as a small creative outlet soon became the foundation of my digital marketing journey. A highlight was my Dissertation Diaries mini-series, documenting my choice to take on two dissertations in Sociology and History - my biggest but most rewarding challenge. Looking back, this is where my passion for digital storytelling began, even though I never imagined it would shape my career.
Nevertheless, unknowing of the opportunities in digital marketing, I initially joined a graduate scheme in Social Sector Audit as a Corporate Assistant with a UK leading accounting firm, something I was so proud of landing in December of my final year. But unfortunately, upon starting, quickly realised the role didn’t align with my skills or interests as hoped. Walking away after almost 3 months wasn’t easy, but it gave me space to refocus on what I really enjoyed.
With no professional marketing experience but growing my own social media portfolio, I started as a Creative Content Designer at a private school for three months, building practical skills in content creation, photography and social media. In March 2025, I joined Agent Marketer as a Marketing and Admin Assistant, where I now coordinate and create social media and email marketing campaigns for over 40 clients across the UK. To strengthen my expertise, I self-invested and completed a Level 5 Certified Digital Marketing Professional qualification this year, gaining valuable insights into marketing theory and strategy.
Your favourite experience as part of your current role?
My highlight has been working at our Agency Marketing Intensive, a three-day digital marketing conference for letting and estate agents. I was responsible for filming and editing all of the event content, which has since reached tens of thousands of people online, and seeing the impact of that work has been both exciting and rewarding.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging moment was realising that my first graduate role wasn’t right for me and making the decision to resign. At the time it felt daunting and like I had let go of a fantastic opporunity, but it turned out to be the best decision I could have made as it allowed me to find a career that truly suits my strengths and passions.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Don’t put pressure on yourself to land the ‘perfect’ role straight away. Take the time to figure out what excites you, stay open to opportunities, and trust that the right path often appears when you least expect it.
