I Got Hired: Charlotte

Posted on: 25 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024

Chemistry with a Year in Industry graduate Charlotte now works at Sellafield Ltd as a Technical Graduate.

How did you hear about your role?

My role was discovered through my industrial placement year whilst at university. Sellafield Ltd offer the opportunity to return and progress as a graduate - I’ve always been passionate about working in nuclear…and specifically Sellafield, who I’ve wanted to work for since I was 14!

How did you get where you are now?

My role was offered to me following an interview at the end of my placement year, but Sellafield advertise roles on their own site and on GradCracker. I had to prepare all the work I had done during my placement and then it was scored against criteria required for the graduate scheme. My role was offered to me in the October of my return to university - I had also applied for other roles in nuclear during this time, such as a Tritium Fuel Chemist with UKAEA, but the decision to stay at Sellafield was made with the upmost excitement to come back and jump straight in. I also received great support from my line manager and team, who were eager for me to come back as well!

Your favourite experience as part of your current role?

Working at a nuclear facility! It’s unlike anything I could have imagined. Working with industry leading professionals and getting to tackle challenges with a range of disciplines has been very rewarding!

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Staying positive when it gets hard. Because I’ve dreamed of working in nuclear for so long, when my passion is challenged or I’m feeling a bout of imposter syndrome, it can sometimes throw me off! Remembering why I’m here and the work I’ve put in to get there puts me straight back on track.

What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?

Know the company and role you’re going to apply to and showcase your passion! A company will remember your passion and willingness to learn, even if your skills don’t cover all of the job aspects!

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
