I Got Hired: Ben
Posted on: 24 November 2025 by Richard Finch in Class of 2024
Class of 2024 Politics graduate Ben now works at Blakeney as an Account Executive.
How did you hear about your course?
I was drawn to studying Politics at Liverpool for several reasons. The city’s vibrant culture made it an exciting place to live, but more importantly, Liverpool’s unique political character meant I would be immersed in a community where politics truly mattered.
Your favourite experience as part of your course?
My favourite experience was the opportunity to dive deeply into issues that affect all of our lives on a daily basis, and to debate those with people on my course from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. That exchange of perspectives not only sharpened my understanding of political challenges, but also showed me the value of finding common ground.
How did you get where you are now?
Through a lot of hard work and taking every opportunity that came my way. At university, securing an internship with a Member of Parliament gave me my first real exposure to politics and a strong understanding of how the system works in practice. Alongside that, serving as Athletic Union Vice President developed soft skills I still rely on every day - from leadership and communication to the importance of representation and meaningful engagement.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging part has been finding a job in an incredibly competitive market. On a more personal level, the transition from the independence and community I loved in Liverpool, surrounded by so many amazing people, to moving back home with my family has been a real adjustment. While I love my family, the shift from university life to living at home is a difficult one, and it’s something that isn’t spoken about enough in my opinion.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future grads?
Do everything you can to build your network, your credibility, and your confidence in your industry. These days, having a degree alone isn’t enough - so take every opportunity to strengthen your CV, whether that’s through work experience, writing blogs or opinion pieces on issues that matter to you, or getting involved in projects and volunteering opportunities alongside your studies. University is the perfect time to set yourself up for success, while still having fun and exploring the things you’re passionate about.
