My YINI Experience: Eviee

Posted on: 18 August 2025 by Richard Finch in Student experiences

We caught up with Business Management student Eviee Tordoff to find out all about her experience on the Retail Management placement programme at Aldi UK.

“Over the past 13 months, I’ve been immersed in the operations of a business that thrives on teamwork, feedback, and efficiency.

I shadowed multiple Area Managers (even extending my placement to experience leading teams in a different area), acted as an Assistant Store Manager in one of our Liverpool Stores, led audits, and even ran an Aldi-themed marathon!

I also spent an insightful week in the warehouse of our Neston distribution centre, seeing everything from quality control to transport (Future as a driver? Maybe - once I work on my reversing skills!)

I also had the opportunity to work on a national project rewriting store training documents to make them more engaging, and aligned with how teams learn best. These are set to roll out later this year.

With the support of incredible mentors Nina Lynch and Sophie Fitzpatrick as well as the rest of the Neston team, I developed a leadership style rooted in empathy, clarity, and high expectations - focused on empowering teams and driving results. Personally, I’ve grown in confidence, resilience, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Now it’s almost time to head back to University of Liverpool Management School for my final year and I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned, both in my studies and also as new Vice President of the Cycling & Triathlon Club.”
