My VEC Summer Internship
Posted on: 14 September 2025 by Shannon Cheung in Student experiences
BSc Computer Science student Sarthak Jha completed an internship with the University of Liverpool's Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) earlier this year. We caught up with him to find out all about it.
What attracted you to the role?
One of my friends interned at the Virtual Engineering Centre last year who pointed me to this role, so I applied, and it's really been fun so far.
What have you been working on?
I've been working as a Software Engineering Intern at the Virtual Engineering Centre. I really like the culture and how supportive everyone has been. I've been working on Meta Liverpool and I just feel it is such a unique project with lots of different stakeholders. I've been working on integrating multiple users into Meta Liverpool and it's been extremely fulfilling, and I think it's important for everyone.
What advice do you have for making applications?
The main thing is just to make yourself stand out from everyone else. Internships are competitive – you need to reach out to lots of people and every job application that you fill out needs to be very unique, tailored, and adding relevant skills. You need to go above and beyond and focus on making it unique.
Would you recommend working at the University of Liverpool?
I really recommend working at the university because you get to work on such a diverse range of projects that truly make an impact and it's extremely fulfilling to do that.
